Hana Kark is a Los Angeles-based artist collective that organizes creative collaborations through a variety of strategies. Their goal is balancing each artist’s autonomy with working together, exploding the idea that artists have to be isolated or that group projects have to be homogenous.

For The CHROMA Series, each of four artists was given the same “assignment” - a pre-selected panel dimension, a fixed number of panels, and a principal color. Clark, Lazzari, St. Ama and Turner then worked independently in their own style and media. They also worked collaboratively during their 2019 Summer Artist Residency at The Art Gallery @ GCC. Once complete, The CHROMA Series was comprised of over 300 panels, a selection of which appears here. The remaining panels have been presented in changing configurations throughout Los Angeles.

Of note, all four participating artists have connections to GCC’s Studio Art Department – Clark is a former student, St. Ama and Turner are former faculty, and Lazzari is the author of several textbooks used by GCC’s students and faculty.
