PASCALINE DOUCIN-DAHLKE

Red Mountain
Installation
2017

Red Mountain is a digital image by contemporary artist Pascaline Doucin-Dahlke. The image is a tribute to the striking natural surroundings of Glendale Community College and the vibrancy of the existing light, textures, and colors of this environment. By overlapping visual snippets from a sunny spring day spent strolling the campus, Doucin-Dahlke combines the hills, wildflowers in bloom, and the strong graphic shadows from the top parking structure floor into an almost-abstract composite. In this composition, the viewer contemplates from a distance and proximity the immense scale of the valley sprawling behind the untouched natural vegetation. The image resembles GCC’s campus, but also suggests an otherworldly, intensely-colored alternate landscape.
